How to Pressure Cook Braised Red cabbage (with Instant Pot instructions)
Ever wondered how to pressure cook Braised Red Cabbage? Let me tell you. Oh and let me tell you that it's so easy that it won't be just for Christmas!
Equipment
- Instant Pot
Ingredients
- ½ red cabbage shredded or sliced
- 1 red onion sliced
- 2 eating apples peeled, cored and sliced
- ½ teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 pinch nutmeg freshly grated
- 1 orange zested and juiced
- 12 Juniper berries you can crush them but I prefer them whole and I discard them at the end as I love them for the aromatics but I don’t like biting into them
- 150 ml water cold
- 1 teaspoon vegetable stock paste diluted in the water
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in the inner pot and mix well.½ red cabbage, 1 red onion, 2 eating apples, ½ tsp ground allspice, 1 pinch nutmeg, 1 orange, 12 Juniper berries, 150 ml water, 1 tsp vegetable stock paste
- Make sure the sealing ring is properly in place and place the lid on.
- Press Pressure Cook / Manual and programme 2 minutes, at the end do a Quick Pressure release. If you like it on the softer side, leave it to do an NPR. Want it crunchy? Cook for 1 minute with QPR or even for 0 minutes.

Notes
You can also reduce the cooking time should you like it on the crunchy side. 2 minutes with Quick Pressure Release (as soon as I can get to the Instant Pot) is my favourite time.
