You may know by now that I am all about making cooking less stressful so I'm happy to introduce... drum roll, please... my Air Fryer Sage and Onion Stuffing.

Cooked stuffing balls in an air fryer

T loves Paxo's Sage and Onion Stuffing and is, in fact, in charge of preparing the mix for the air fryer and, dare I say it, eating it raw too. Yep, she makes up the mix and then eats it as is.

As I have already posted how to cook the Paxo Stuffing in the Air Fryer, it's time to give you the homemade version.

So this was my attempt to recreate it over several times of forgetting to buy the pack of Paxo... I forget every time!! Stuffing is a last-minute thought for me.

    Equipment

    • 1 Frying pan
    • 1 Air fryer

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon butter unsalted
    • 1 tablespoon oil I tend to use extra virgin olive oil
    • 1 large onion brown or red
    • 1 clove garlic peeled and chopped
    • 2 teaspoon sage dried or fresh, finely chopped
    • 180 g breadcrumbs I tend to blitz stale bread to make bread crumbs and keep a bag in the freezer
    • 2 large eggs beaten

    Instructions

    • Heat the butter and oil in a frying pan. Fry the onion gently for 15 minutes over a low heat until the onions are softened and translucent. Add the garlic and sage and fry for 1 min. Leave to cool for 10 mins. Want to do this step in your air fryer? Remove the grill and do it straight in the drawer or, do it in a tray or enamel dish at 160ºC for about 10 minutes.
1 tablespoon butter, 1 tablespoon oil, 1 large onion, 1 clove garlic, 2 teaspoon sage
    • Stir the breadcrumbs and beaten egg through the onion mixture, add an extra egg, if necessary to bind. Season to taste. Divide into 12 balls
      180 g breadcrumbs, 2 large eggs
    • 12 minutes at 160°C in air fryers that count down immediately (ie without a preheating phase), like the Ninja air fryers
10 minutes at 160°C in air fryers that count down after a preheating phase, like the Instant Brands air fryers

Got a pack of Paxo instead?

My Paxo Stuffing in the Air Fryer method is what you need.

The method works with other brands too, not just Paxo. We've tried it with all sorts.

    Can I make it ahead?

You can make this the day before (even two days before), store in the fridge and warm it up on the day, make it at the last minute straight after your Air Fryer Whole Roast Chicken & Gravy, don't even wash the drawer, place the grill plate back in and place the balls on top (your air fryer will be hot already so you may have to add a couple of minutes to the air frying time).

But, here's a tip from me: you don't have to be having a full roast to make stuffing, you could make it just because! It makes a great snack!

Earthy sage, fried onion, breadcrumbs... this stuffing screams 'Christmas' or reminds you of your mum calling you to the table for Sunday Dinner (okay, she might have screamed too!).

All whipped up in your trusty Air Fryer.

Bon appétit and merry cooking and join my Air Fryer group!
