Let's find out how to best reheat Christmas Pudding in a pressure cooker, Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi... Super easy.
And, indeed, even better if it's an electric pressure cooker / multi cooker as you'll be able to let it go to Warm automatically and your Christmas pudding will be ready when you are ready.
This method works both with shop-bought and homemade Christmas Puddings, including our own recipe.
Important things to know:
- the plastic basins that come with the shop-bought puddings can often warp under pressure so it's wise to remove them
- if you have wrapped your homemade Christmas pudding in greaseproof paper and/or foil to store, then you can choose whether to leave on or not as they do well under pressure and is breathable
- if you have stored your homemade Christmas Pudding in a pudding basin, you can leave it in the basin to reheat
- or, if you didn't store it in the pudding basin but you do have it around, you could put it inside the basin to reheat after removing any wrapping
Do whatever is easier for you because, honestly, you can't ruin the things! Christmas Puddings will survive anything.
Mostly, I want you to have a chilled, lovely, wonderful Christmas Day, Boxing Day or whenever it is that you're going to eat your puddings!
How to reheat Christmas Pudding in a Pressure Cooker
Equipment
- 1 Pressure Cooker
- 1 steam rack or trivet or steam basket
Ingredients
- 1 Christmas Pudding you can fit more in if you have little puddings. This can be a shop-bought or homemade Christmas Pudding.
- 250 ml water (1 cup water) cold, use 500 ml water (2 cups) if you have bigger pressure cooker, eg. a 7.8 litre, 8 litre or 8 quart
Instructions
- Pour the 250 ml water (1 cup water) into the inner pot. Use 500 ml water, 2 cups, if you are using a large-capacity pressure cooker.
- Put the steam rack in place, most pressure cookers come with one these days, use that one. You can also use a steamer basket which make it easier to get the pudding in and out.
- Place 1 Christmas Pudding on the steam rack (or trivet or steam basket) to reheat. If they're little, you can reheat more than one at the same time (no need to increase timings). See notes above to know what to do with the wrapping.
- Use the following timings to reheat on Christmas Day: - Small puddings: 10 minutes at high pressure- Medium and large puddings: 30 minutes at high pressure
- If you have an electric pressure cooker, leave on Warm for as long as you need to while you enjoy your Christmas Dinner and subsequent lounging around. If you're in a rush all of a sudden, you can do a quick pressure release but, otherwise, forget they even exist and, when you remember, they'll be magically ready for you.
- Honestly, there's no way of killing these things so don't worry too much and have a fabulous Christmas!
